Symbol Verses

Using symbol supported text for Bible verses is important for our special needs Sunday School lessons for two main reasons.
  1. Helps beginning readers "read" the verse by using the symbol support
  2. Engages visual learners (especially great for individuals with autism)

With these symbol supported Bible verses you can:
  • Print two copies, laminate both, and cut apart sections to Velcro on the main copy for practice
  • Cut into small cards to have kids sort and arrange to put the verse in order
  • Send home copies of the verse for families to put on the fridge and practice at home
  • Print in B&W or grayscale for kids to color.
There are two different types of symbol writing programs used to create most of these verses. Above is Smarty Symbols (SS) is an online symbol database that can also be used to gather the symbols you need. Widgit Software is the other one (seen below and my favorite!) and their online software is very easy to use when symbolizing verses such as these.

Some verses are simplified and others are direct from the text. Most are from NIV or ESV versions. Some have additional tracing or coloring activities with them!
