Love can be such a tricky concept to grasp because it is so abstract but SUCH an important thing to learn about!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAzCHk2PaPoORgPPclDtKwdQzOWvRNs0WuqeOUo6l-RUywHJIoX4qI2Xc2ogsHtCCVD13WffZW3Nrcn3oBdJ8wilpbul1FMOBvwlMOh32lIVfsIHN57UI1XTW4MAmQStDMF9Etan5Q8-co/s1600/FullSizeRender+16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAzCHk2PaPoORgPPclDtKwdQzOWvRNs0WuqeOUo6l-RUywHJIoX4qI2Xc2ogsHtCCVD13WffZW3Nrcn3oBdJ8wilpbul1FMOBvwlMOh32lIVfsIHN57UI1XTW4MAmQStDMF9Etan5Q8-co/s400/FullSizeRender+16.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Not only is love a tricky, abstract concept to learn, love doesn't have one clear Bible story attached to it (it's not like we are learning about Noah), so I couldn't just pick a story for us to learn either. Instead, I will let the kids pick out any story in our picture Bible and am pretty sure it will somehow relate to God's love. But in addition to that, I've created a couple specific interactive books about God's love!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOwrITiAsym_QYHNqX-_Xerm-CZATDUJ1byHf_6SF_7jUgn848vHKSkD0NgU5ZdgQ4dBHEd4-XssCkH6IB87OTPxHjxfcPXI6vR6AFYBkKyn4X2q12dmYavLECi7rEElGnCN6VOUZ_OQLh/s1600/IMG_0165.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOwrITiAsym_QYHNqX-_Xerm-CZATDUJ1byHf_6SF_7jUgn848vHKSkD0NgU5ZdgQ4dBHEd4-XssCkH6IB87OTPxHjxfcPXI6vR6AFYBkKyn4X2q12dmYavLECi7rEElGnCN6VOUZ_OQLh/s320/IMG_0165.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I hope these books are both fun to read and make this abstract concept a little easier to understand. One of the books is based on a couple children's songs and it more of a "fun" book. All of the pages read "God's love is ____er than the ______." And the last page reads "God loves you and me."<br />
<br />
The second book goes more into detail about how God loves us, such as sending his son to the world, Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, and how God wants us to love others as well.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO-7_gp5owmT_LLhyphenhyphenscW4Y3OVWS4-FksaKIY83B885RMp3kP21uYLpgy8aJ32NfYbapGJTc0GhzkX9X0X3qniGOVvMJB_YtEPo0x0lFnUvvH_AT9FpbkPHNobeVrIsGzm1YJpIQLcSIbCx/s1600/IMG_0167.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO-7_gp5owmT_LLhyphenhyphenscW4Y3OVWS4-FksaKIY83B885RMp3kP21uYLpgy8aJ32NfYbapGJTc0GhzkX9X0X3qniGOVvMJB_YtEPo0x0lFnUvvH_AT9FpbkPHNobeVrIsGzm1YJpIQLcSIbCx/s320/IMG_0167.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The pages are full sized, but I decided to print mine two to a page in order to make it a little smaller. I then laminated, hole punched and added book rings to put it together. Then I added velcro to each page to attach the small pictures so that the kids can match each picture to the page as they read.<br />
<br />
I really hope these books will help my Sunday School kiddos understand how real and wonderful God's love is for them!<br />
<br />
We will also be using John 3:16 as our Bible verse for the month, check out the symbol supported Bible Verse page for those!<br />

Do you have any ideas or suggestions on teaching tricky abstract concepts like this to our special needs kiddos? I'd love to hear about them!Breezy Special Edhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07157865516324470746noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2361767928615065410.post-80323811356371655012016-12-03T19:20:00.002-08:002016-12-03T19:20:19.042-08:00Jesus is Born - Christmas Nativity LessonsIt's December and time to talk about Jesus's birth! What a wonderful time and such a great story for our kids to learn. There are SO many different resources out there to help teach about Jesus's birth, but here's a few of my favorite for kids with special needs.<br />

<b>Christmas Story Adapted Book:</b><br />
I love <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Christmas-Activities-Freebie-Christmas-Emergent-Readers-The-Nativity-Story-1530710" target="_blank">this Christmas emergent reader book</a> offered as a freebie from Let's Learn S'More. I easily made it into an adapted book by cutting out pictures from the second copy of each page to laminate and add to the book with Velcro. When kids read, they have to match each picture to the page. This is a great way to give purpose to reading stories and make them interactive for our special needs kids!<br />

<b>Symbol Supported Verse - Luke 2:14</b><br />
I like to print out two copies, laminate both and cut out the pieces on one to Velcro to the other. We like to<span style="font-family: inherit;"> <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">"hide" the pieces around the room and have the kids grab all of the pieces to then put together on the verse board. We take turns saying and repeating the verse.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">I also print out grayscale copies of the verse to have students color or cut apart and then glue in the correct order on a separate piece of paper.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><br /></span></span>

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">We are currently using the <a href="http://amzn.to/2gTMK0h" target="_blank">Play N Worship</a> curriculum <span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>(amazon affliate link)</i></span>. I love that it provides a simple story, prayer, and hands on activities. It's not perfect and I do have to create additional activities (like the ones above) but I like it!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><b>Coloring Pages:</b></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">You can find a ton with a simple Google search! <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/307300374559409923/" target="_blank">These ornaments</a> also much a fun (and easy) craft/coloring activity.</span></span><br />
